Chris Wehr, M.D. spent 20 years working with critically ill patients as a cardiothoracic surgeon before getting frustrated with the traditional healthcare model and his limited ability to make an impact on patient care. Able to only manage symptoms after it became too late, Dr. Wehr struggled to find a way to prevent problems before they developed into irreversible or debilitating health conditions. His frustration and desire to make a real difference in patients’ lives led him to discover functional medicine.
At Orlando Vitality, Dr. Wehr is able to help patients achieve optimal health, even if they are suffering from health conditions such as metabolic syndrome, atherosclerosis, vascular dysfunction and other issues. Dr. Wehr has discovered that if conditions like hormonal imbalance and other illnesses are caught early enough, they can be reversed with dietary changes and hormone treatments for significantly improved health.
Dr. Wehr’s passion for the best healthcare modalities isn’t limited to his office. In addition to providing individual wellness programs tailored to address each patient’s specific needs, Dr. Wehr is also the former primary care physician for cycling teams around the world. He has helped athletes, including Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana (Grand Tours) world champions, protect and restore their health through diet and nutraceuticals. In his cycling work, Dr. Wehr has helped professional athletes push themselves to test the limits of human endurance and safely recover from the intense demands placed on the body. Dr. Wehr is part of the American Association of Cycling Team Doctors and is an amateur cyclist himself.
Dr. Wehr’s career in medicine began with an undergraduate degree in Zoology at Duke University, followed by cardiac studies at Ohio State Medical School, where he graduated Cum Laude with his Medical Degree and went on to complete his residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. His specialty in critical care led Dr. Wehr to multiple achievements, such as attaining the title of Chief Resident in General Surgery and becoming an NIH Research Fellow. Today, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), a registered vascular physician interpreter of ultrasound (RVPI) and a member of the American Association of Cycling Team Doctors.
